‘Bridge’ the gap between the Christmas holiday and New Year’s with a Game Night Bash. I recently styled a party for a client whose husband loves to play card games and Wii. The client thought it would be really fun to have a Spades card tournament and Wii dance-off. She also wanted the color scheme to be red and gold to coordinate with the colors in her home.
To create party accents, like this door sign, I used digital papers from the Tea Party Black Red set by Cupcake Cutiees. They came with the perfect playing card inspired sheet with a hearts and clubs pattern that I used for most of the party decor.
Door signs are the perfect welcome for a party. It is the first thing the guests see as they approach the party venue and clues them in on what’s in store for your party!
I love making party banners and garlands for my events. Display them in a large open area near the party space. They look just as festive swagged across the front of a sweets table or hung from the ceiling just above the party table. For this event, I draped the garland in the main area of the party space across the window.
They can be easily created on your computer and you can make them in various shapes, like circles, triangular or pennant, banner style pennants and squares.
For food, the hostess served a buffet of finger foods and desserts. I created a buffet table and accented the table with tented food cards and toppers for the cupcakes. You can also add coordinating table signs to the table to match the theme.
As some guests mingled, the hostess coordinated teams for the Spades tournament and Wii Dance-Off.
The client suggested a great idea for this party – a bracket style tournament board. Print Your Own Brackets has various online tools you can use to create brackets for everything from Darts to Beer Pong.
I used the tools on their site for the Spades Tournament and Wii Dance Off bracket boards. To create the bracket boards, I designed square shaped score cards on my computer using theTea Party Black Red paper set and printed them out from my own printer. They were then placed onto the foam board according to the layout from the site and mounted onto black card stock so they would ‘pop’ off the board.
As the party wound down and guests were leaving, they were each presented with lovely red glittered favor box filled with the birthday guy’s favorite candies. I added a simple ‘Thank You for Coming’ tag to the handles of each box.
Giving your guests a lovely favor box or or treat bag is the perfect way to say thank you and to show your appreciation to them for celebrating your special occasion with you.
You can find very inexpensive boxes in large quantities from dollar and discount stores. A basic brown paper lunch sack dressed up with patterned paper and ribbon is also a nice (and affordable) way to package a small memento or your favorite candy.
Present your favors and gifts on a platter or place them in a basket by the door so guests can grab one as they leave.
Whether it be pulling out the tried and true board games or having a fun video game challenge, there are lots of ways to have a game night with your friends and family. The best tip to having a successful game night is to be sure and have a lot of fun!
