Little Drummer Boy Play Date Party

A Little Drummer Boy play date party is a fun way to get all of your little fella’s pals together for a bang-out time over the Christmas break.

The Vintage Santa Holiday Digital Papers    by Cupcake Cuties was the perfect inspiration for the color scheme I had in mind for this social occasion.  With the paper set and a few clip art images that I designed myself,  I was able to create some adorable party accents!

This invite is a perfect way to let little guests know what will be going on during the party by hinting  towards the idea of drums!

As guest arrive, it is always nice to show a warm welcome to the party with a fun door sign.  This welcome door sign features my little drummer boy and images from the paper set tied together with lots of fun & festive ribbon!

Nothing says winter like hot chocolate.  I love the idea of a hot chocolate bar for any winter event this year.  It’s simple to put together and who doesn’t like a hot cup of chocolate!

For this hot chocolate display, I added party dots to wooden stirrers and accented each mug with boy-friendly grosgrain ribbon.

Present mugs on a serving tray alongside whipped cream.    Old fashioned peppermint sticks can also serve as stirring sticks and make a nice compliment to a hot cup of cocoa.

Small peppermints, mini marshmallows, plain M&M’s, chocolate chunks and  sprinkles are perfect toppings for your bar.  Place toppings and mix-ins into small bowls  or footed glass candle holders with serving spoons.

To create your own hot chocolate bar, start by making  homemade hot chocolate; I  like this tried and true recipe from Hershey’s

Be sure to include other complimentary  sweets. Pair your cocoa with chocolate chunk cookies, powdered donuts, cake balls, mini cupcakes and marshmallow pops!  Dress them up with flagged party picks.  You can create your own decorative party picks by cutting strips of paper and wrapping the ends around toothpicks and sealing with tape.

What better activity for a Little Drummer boy play date than a drum craft?

All you need to create your own drum is an empty coffee can or oatmeal or candy cardboard canister.  You will also need a balloon, rubber band, decorative paper cut to fit your container, tape, a wooden dowel, glue, paint and a small Styrofoam ball.

Follow the steps in this tutorial to create your own!  You can also try this spin drum craft as another option.  Once your gang finishes their drum craft, have a drum parade or a mini drum line challenge!

Your play date should  last around 2-2.5 hours and once your guests finish their crafts, send them off with a homemade treat of dry cocoa mix!  I used gift tags and printed paper to create these altered lunch bags.

A Little Drummer Boy theme is also a great idea for birthdays and baby showers!  I hope you were inspired with great ideas and fun tips on creating your own boy-friendly play date party!
