This Sunday night me and my best gals will gather round the big screen tv and watch with anticipation to see who is the best of the best this year, in movies. With the Oscars only three days away I wanted to share a few tips and ideas for creating your own viewing party.
If you’re an awards show junkie like I am then you will know that the Oscars is all about glitz and glam. For this bash I wanted to add more to that appeal and create an overall theme by incorporating a bit of Old Hollywood into the mix. I started out with this invitation that I created using clip art images from the Hollywood Awards by Revi Devi and Pekoe Papers by Lily Bimble. I chose the clip art set mainly for the Oscar image, but also to add a touch of whimsy and I thought the paper set was very art deco and tied in well with an old Hollywood feel.
Invitations are ALWAYS party starters. For this particular invitation, I really wanted to show an Oscar award, but wanted the overall invite to be reflective of the style I was working with for the party. So, I added a few extra elements to the design, like the star-burst flourish and ticket-like bracket frame.
Welcome guests with a sign to highlight the fun that awaits! I created this welcome sign and added it to a square decorative plate that I used as a frame. Then, I added some bling and fringed crepe paper poms to add a bit more pizzazz to the sign.
As guests come in offer them a fabulous cocktail! Presentation is key and shows how much effort you put into making sure your bash is extra special for your guests. You can create swizzle sticks for your drinks by using a beverage stirrer and
embellish it with some bling, sparkle, glittered paper or patterned paper. You can also use a large circle punch to embellish the foot of your wine glass as I did here.
You can’t have an Oscar bash without popcorn! I’m lucky enough to have an old fashioned movie style Popcorn cart in my house that we always use. This will be a perfect addition to the party. I created little popcorn boxes for the party to tie in with the rest of the decor. Because the printed boxes are not food grade, I placed the popcorn in cellophane bags and tied them with a ribbon for the perfect presentation!
I love cupcakes! Here I created a wrapper and toppers for the cupcake display. Each topper has the name of the different categories for the awards. It will be fun to see if anyone chooses a cupcake that matches their personality.
A fun activity during the award show is Oscar Bingo! You play as you go and I thought these party dots work well as game markers! Also, placing your vote for the best in each category is especially fun. I found free printouts on How About Orange for the Bingo game and Ballots – you can download them here.
One of my favorite items of this party will definitely be the ballot envelope napkins! I created these by folding the napkins into an envelope shape and sealed them closed with a party dot.
Be sure to thank guests for coming by sending them home with a ‘swag bag’. I created a sign for my ‘gift room’ and used one of my favorite Tolsby frames from Ikea and added a little bling to the sign for extra sparkle! You can find really cute and inexpensive bags from Target’s Dollar Spot or your local Dollar store along with other swag gifts. I found a cute fabric flower headband, mini nail polish and hand cream to fill my bags.
If you like the items created for this party, you can order the Oscar Party set from my Etsy shop or purchase the Hollywood Awards clip art by Revi Devi and Pekoe Papers by Lily Bimble to create your own personalized party.
I hope you enjoyed these party tips and ideas and are inspired to host your own Oscar Bash! Don’t limit these ideas to just the Oscars. They also work for many other awards show and movie night parties.
