My daughter has a love for rocks. Just about everyday, she comes home with a rock from school, a rock that is smoother and prettier than the one from the day before. She keeps a stash of them in just about every thing she owns. So, when she decided on a rock birthday party, I wasn’t too surprised.
I started the design by creating this simple, chic invite. I used her favorite color pink and coupled it with grey inspired by rocks. I used a paper from A Parisian Anthology Papers by Blackleaf Studios for the border. Since all the invitations were being hand delivered, we incorporated a personalized rock on the outside for the guest.
For the party design, I gathered some unique rocks from my aunt who is a geologist. I used them in combination with the Parisian Chic Papers by Clementine throughout the party.
A sign to welcome the wee ones to the party.
For activities, we started out by decorating paper plates to make maracas (ma-ROCK- car, get it?). The girls decorated them and then we folded them in half and filled them with a handful of pea gravel (note, more rocks!) and stapled them shut. We also made rock necklaces and pet rocks, and I read the story “Sylvester and the Magic Pebble” while sitting in a ROCK-ing chair.
For birthday cake, we had cupcakes topped with chocolate rocks (yes, there really is such a thing!). Strawberry milk in glass milk jugs with stripy straws and my daughter’s favorite snack yogurt covered pretzels rounded out the dessert table.
Someone told the rock birds there was a party, so they dressed up for the event:)
Here is a close up of the chocolate rocks! They look so real, don’t they!

For favors, I made the girls each a tote with their initial on it. These turned out super cute and were so easy to make. I simply made a pattern for each initial by picking a very simple font in Word. I cut each initial out of the fabric using pinking shears and then glued it to the canvas tote using tacky fabric glue. By stuffing them with tissue paper they made a pretty display. I used the polka dot paper from the Parisian Chic Papers for the tag background and tied them with some nice grey ribbon.
And of course, more of my play on words as they exited:)
